Six ready meals will be added to the range in selected stores to appeal to growing demand for a Halal diet.
Serving dietary demand
36 M&S Food stores will sell the range of meals, which include popular classics such as chicken hotpot and chicken tikka masala. The ready meals will also be sold by M&S's international franchise partner Al-Futtaim in markets including Singapore and Dubai.
Prior to this private label range launch, selected M&S's UK stores reported strong sales of Shazans branded Halal chicken products since their introduction in the spring.
Stuart Machin, MD of M&S Food, commented "Our new Halal meal range is a great example of how we are broadening appeal so that more customers can enjoy our delicious, quality food... first to market ranges that respond to growing dietary demands ...can deliver real commercial impact ".
Implementing ideas from the store
As part of its strategy to bring back the voice of the store in its business, M&S colleagues have been instrumental in driving development of the range. Temple Fortune Store Manager Simon Pollitt-Khan commented "I approached the Food leadership team with an idea and it's great to see it turned into a commercial reality...Following a Halal diet, there are limited options if i want to grab something quick and easy for dinner."
