7-Eleven Thailand will work with Thai bank CIMB and open between 20 and 30 sub-branches inside its stores next year.
Banks offering a wide range of services in-store
All the new branches will be located in the broader Metropolitan Bangkok area. The bank opened the Sitabutr sub-branch at the second 7-Eleven store. It is intended to provide services to retail customers in the dense market, said Adisorn Sermchaiwong, senior executive vice-president of CIMBT's Consumer Banking Group. He said this is the first time a Thai commercial bank's sub-branch had been placed in a convenience store.
The sub-branch offers a span of financial services, including account opening, cash deposits, foreign currency exchange, money transfers and acceptance of applications for personal loans, credit cards and leasing.
