Woolworths has expanded its two hour online delivery service to 35 stores across Sydney and Melbourne.
Popular with young couples and new parents
Woolworths has been testing its two hour delivery service since august 2017 at four stores in Sydney and has now extended the service to 20 stores in Sydney and 15 in Melbourne. The service allows online shoppers to choose from up to 30 items and have them delivered within two hours. In trials the service has been popular with young couples and new parents. However, the it costs AU$19 and is limited to between 9am and 7pm seven days a week. If successful, it could be rolled out further in the future.
Shifting towards shorter delivery windows
Globally retailers are looking to deliver greater convenience to shoppers via online services. For example, in China Alibaba, JD.com and Yonghui all offer 30 minute deliveries from certain stores. Delivery windows will inevitably decline in the future. As well as offering these services themselves, other retailers are speeding up deliveries through third party providers, something that Coles in Australia is testing via a partnership with Airtasker.
