Australian petrol forecourts are set to see a new convenience format rolled out later this year, as Caltex looks to revamp its existing stores.
New format will offer better value, food and even haircuts!
The new format, which will be revealed over the coming months, is set to offer better value and more services, including food-to-go, ready meals, dry cleaning and even haircuts. The revamps come as the retailer looks to broaden the appeal of its forecourt stores in the face of changing customer demand. It is understood that Caltex is also exploring new ways to make its forecourt stores even more convenient, via mobile apps, digital platforms, joint ventures, partnerships and online websites.
Convenient solutions an undoubted growth area downunder
Food-to-go is one of IGD's hot trends to watch in Australia in 2016, with this element of retailer operations relatively under developed compared to what we see in other markets. Both Coles and Woolworths have seen strong LFL sales growth through their forecourt stores over the past year and as Woolworths rolls out more Metro stores into city CBD's, this area of grocery retailing is bound to evolve further. In our view, how Australian shoppers do their grocery shopping will continue to evolve with convenient solutions set to be a key growth area over the coming years.
