Stockport-based cash & carry wholesaler, Parfetts is to open its seventh site, with the acquisition of Blakemore Wholesale's depot in Middlesbrough, in the north-east of England. The purchase will complete on 22 June and the cash & carry will begin trading under Parfetts name on 25 June.
Enhances position of Parfetts as a northern regional operator
With its existing sites in Stockport, Aintree, Anfield, Somercotes (Derby), Halifax and Sheffield, Parfetts has been relatively slow to expand from its original base in the north-west. Its most recent opening was the Sheffield site in 2004. The Middlesbrough acquisition now takes it into the north-east of England for the first time, and as an existing cash & carry operation this brings with it a strong customer base amongst local independent retailers; including the high profile, award-winning operator Bay Bashir.
Platform for sustained growth
Despite the tough market conditions the Parfetts business has performed well in the last year or so, with latest reported sales (to June 2017) of £324m, up 5.6%. Building on the success of its Go Local retailer club and fascia group, it has been evolving a highly efficient delivery operation within its established cash & carry model. The Middlesbrough location will enable it to bring its customer offer to a new group of retailers looking to move their own businesses to the next level.
Retains another Blakemore depot within the Landmark family
As Parfetts is a long-standing member of the Landmark wholesale buying group, its purchase of this Blakemore site ensures that its volumes will not be lost to the group, helping sustain the overall scale of Landmark. With Blakemore committed to exiting the cash & carry sector, it now has only seven further sites to dispose of.
