Leading north-west regional wholesaler, Parfetts has moved to a 24/7 picking operation to meet spiking delivery orders from its independent retail customers during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Faced with unprecedented consumer demand independent retailers are purchasing in significantly increased volumes to meet these needs. Parfetts’ traditional cash & carry business is also sharply up, with many retailers turning over stock in some categories on a daily basis and unable to wait for delivery.
Recruiting new staff and redeploying to increase capacity
Parfetts is now actively recruiting for new depot staff to help ensure on-shelf availability and to pick the increased delivery orders. In addition, field-based and head office colleagues have been moved into depots to help take up the slack. The wholesaler has also increased deep-cleaning in depots to protect customers and staff, while additional security has been added to ensure general safety around its sites.
Greg Suszczenia, Joint Managing Director, Parfetts, commented:
‘To date, I couldn’t be prouder of our colleagues and how the whole company has reacted in these unprecedented times. The most important thing for me right now is that our suppliers meet this change in demand. Our retailers are in the heart of communities. The overwhelming majority know many of their customers by name. This distribution channel must be supported because it massively over indexes in the demographics of those that are affected, particularly the elderly. Lockdown will be particularly tough for these people.’
