National wholesale buying group Landmark has announced that foodservice wholesaler Caterway, a specialist in the fish & chip sector, is the latest new member to be recruited to the group. This brings the total of new members acquired during the second half of 2013 to 10, with group membership reaching a record high of 40, with combined sales well in excess of £3bn.
Fuelling diversity in membership
While Abra Wholesale, which joined from Today's, is much more in the traditional mould of Landmark members, with a focus on retail channel customers, and majoring in tobacco impulse and BWS, the other new members are bringing a wider range of interests to the group. Six of the new members are on-trade drinks specialists, members of the National Drinks Distributors group, and RD Johns and Caterway are both foodservice specialist; though each focusing on distinct customer segments in the sector. Finally Sutaka is a business primarily focused on export, including to markets in Africa and the Middle East.
Continuing strong group sales
Boosted by ongoing recruitment Landmark has reported strong performance through member depots, with total sales out up 9.5% in September, the most recently reported month. Landmark private label ranges have been a significant part of this success, with its portfolio of exclusive brands in licensed categories showing growth of 15% in BWS and 9% in tobacco. Further extensions to its LSV range of energy and sports drinks has driven its sales by 7% while support for the Lifestyle Value offer, driving sales through depots and stores, has helped grow its sales by 21%.
