Blakemore Wholesale acquires three depots

Date : 02 July 2013
It has been announced that the cash & carry division of AF Blakemore, Blakemore Wholesale, has purchased the Lowries Wholesale business with three depots across Northumberland and Cumbria.

Boosts Blakemore to 13 depots

The acquisition of Lowries further enhances Blakemore Wholesale as one of the leading second tier cash & carry wholesalers in the UK market. Adding to Blakemore's existing portfolio of 10 depots, Lowries brings with it a strong mixed customer base, including both independent retailers and caterers, in pubs especially.

Retains Lowries within Landmark group

Both Blakemore Wholesale and Lowries are long-term members of the Landmark buying group, and this deal ensures that the Lowries depots are retained within that membership. With both businesses already closely aligned through this trading affiliation, the acquisition is likely to be a relatively smooth transition for the Lowries business, representing a simple bolt-on for Blakemore.

Sam Wilcox, Managing Director, Blakemore Wholesale commented:

"The forthcoming retirement of Peter Lowrie has prompted the sale of this business.  We are pleased to have acquired this excellent family company, which is  good fit with our business and gives us an increasingly strong presence in the North-East."
