SPAR UK has introduced Amazon collection lockers in nine of its stores with further lockers planned for the future.
Driving sales through loyalty and increased footfall
The decision to put Amazon lockers in its stores makes SPAR one of the first symbol groups to capitalise on consumers' changing shopping habits. The move follows the announcement last August by Amazon to launch a nationwide network of parcel collection points involving almost 5,000 convenience stores and newsagents across he UK.
Popular facility with shoppers
IGD's ShopperVista found 7% of shoppers currently use a parcel pickup service, while 72% can imagine using such a service. In a highly competitive market, symbol groups that can offer customers a convenient way to pick up their online purchases will drive footfall into stores and help build loyalty.
Commitment to launching new technologies
Barry Wallis, SPAR UK retail development controller commented "This is a highly innovative move from SPAR UK, showing our commitment to launching the latest technologies that provide the best possible convenience to shoppers. Online sales are growing with more than half the UK population now shopping online".
Technological advances at SPAR
The lockers will be advertised in store and on the consumer website, with customers able to select the delivery option at the Amazon checkout. This move towards increased technology in convenience stores is a trend we are seeing across the sector, with other examples from SPAR including mobile phone charging units, free WiFi and mobile marketing apps.
