SPAR Austria invests in new private label ‘SPAR Enjoy’ drinks range
SPAR Austria has invested in a variety of new private label drinks under the 'SPAR Enjoy' brand over the last quarter.
This includes a range of rainbow juices featuring exotic fruit and vegetables. These are now available in all SPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR stores in Austria.

Following the launch, SPAR Austria introduced a range of organic iced tea. Products are produced in a small factory in Austria, with ingredients being organic and Fairtrade. As part of SPAR’s wider commitment to reduce sugar in private label products, the range also only has 5.5g of organic sugar per 100ml.
Other developments include the revival of an organic cola recipe from a pharmacist. The product has an emphasis on natural products and is ‘free from artificial aromas, phosphate acids or other additives’. As with the new iced tea, ‘the trendy Vio-Cola natural is significantly less sugary than comparable Coke products from other suppliers’.
SPAR Croatia invests over €50m in Croatia in 2017
Elsewhere in Europe, SPAR Croatia CEO, Helmut Fenzl has announced that SPAR Croatia has invested over €50m in Croatia this year as it looks to expand in the country. Mr Fenzl made the statement at the opening of a new supermarket in Zagreb. This store opening brings the retailer’s network in the country to 103 stores.
Expansion has focused on Croatia’s Adriatic region, while next year SPAR Croatia will be investing €23m in a new hypermarket in Rijeka, a port city in the north Adriatic Sea.
SPAR Netherlands continues SPAR Express forecourt roll out…
Meanwhile, having opened its first SPAR Express forecourt store earlier in 2017, SPAR Netherlands is continuing to roll out this concept. This includes new sites in Tilburg and Heemskerk. According to a press release, ‘Heemskerk is the first one to open along a main highway. The product range at both stores focuses on grab-and-go items complemented by sandwiches, meals, salads and soups for take-away'.
…As it introduces Christmas meal boxes
In other news, SPAR Netherlands has introduced a meal box, containing recipes and corresponding products to create a four-course festive dinner for two. Priced at €24.50, the meal boxes can be ordered in-store and online before 17th December for collection or delivery on December 22nd or 23rd.
Albert Heijn is also offering its own similar Christmas meal box.
SPAR Kalingrad opens eight new stores
Elsewhere, SPAR Kalingrad has opened eight new supermarkets in the last few months, including four EUROSPAR supermarkets and four SPAR Neighbourhood stores.
A press release cited that given 'Kalingrad is the most European of all Russian regions, situated just 30km from Poland. As a result, shoppers are keen to purchase a variety of western European cuisines and a diverse product range'.
With this in mind, the EUROSPAR stores ‘target locals who come to do bulk shopping …. The destination departments include a fresh bakery, sushi & pizza counters, a fresh fish section and food-to-go items such as breakfast smoothies and sandwiches’. Meanwhile ‘new SPAR stores have a fresh bakery section as well as deli counters and some also serve freshly made pizza and sushi in-store’.
SPAR Albania celebrates one-year anniversary
In other news, As it celebrates its first year operating in Albania, SPAR Albania has said it will have opened 30 stores in nine Albanian cities by the end of 2017.
