Japanese discount operator, Don Quijote (known as Donki) has opened its first store in Hong Kong today (12 July 2019).
Targeting mainland Chinese tourists
The new store is in the basement of Mira Place Two on Nathan Road, Tsim Sha TsuiMall. The location is convenient for mainland tourists travelling via the high-speed rail and mega bridge.
Don Quijote carries an extensive range of cosmetics, health care and food items that would appeal to both locals and tourists. Its offer is also distinctively Japanese, and will provide shoppers a new destination for specialty products in Hong Kong.
Donki expanding footprint
Parent of Don Quijote, Pan Pacific International Holdings (PPIH), currently operates six Don Don Donki stores in Singapore. It entered the market in 2017 and targets ten stores by 2020. PPIH also launched its first store in Bangkok earlier this year.
