Edeka aiming for vertical integration

Date : 28 June 2013

Speaking at the retailer's annual conference, Edeka's chief executive, Markus Mosa, has talked about its ambition to become vertically integrated.

Will help improve quality

Edeka has already acquired five production facilities of the juice manufacturer Elro and Mr Mosa does not rule out further additions to the group. He said vertical integration would create room for manoeuvre in the procurement of raw materials, and that it would ensure optimal quality for the independent retailers.

Encouraging cooperation between regions

Chairman of the administrative board, Adolf Scheck, is supportive of the initiative. He encouraged regional suppliers to work together, think about new possibilities in production, and to work together across regions.
