Costco moving to Western Australia

Date : 27 February 2018

Costco has revealed that it will be opening a first outlet in Perth, Western Australia, with the store to open by 2020.

West coast competition to heat up further

The new 14,000 sq m store will open close to Perth Airport, with Western Australia being the sixth state that the retailer will enter in the market. The move comes just a few years since Aldi entered Western Australia and continues to expand. Now with Costco arriving, all the major players in the Australian grocery market will at last be in Western Australia. Costco said that it 'cannot wait to finally be able to service the Perth community.'

Steady and sustainable store and network growth

Costco currently has nine stores trading in Australia, with three stores in both Sydney and Melbourne, with one each in Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane. The network is expect to reach double figures with the opening of its tenth store in Epping, Melbourne in mid-2018. The retailer continues to see steady growth in the Australian market, posting sales of almost AU$1.6bn in 2017, up from AU$1.5bn the year before.
