Italy: the latest investment plans

Carrefour Italia has introduced a dedicated section for organic products and plans to continue launching eco-friendly products. Meanwhile, Coop Italia plans to continue to invest as it looks to improve its customer support measures during the coronavirus pandemic. Finally, one of Conad’s cooperatives set out its €350m investment plan alongside its FY 2019 results.

Carrefour Italia introduce bio corner

Carrefour Italia has introduced organic corners in some of its stores. The shop-in-shop concept covers 115 sq. m and holds 1,500 certified organic products. Carrefour claims it only offers environmentally friendly personal care products in sustainable packaging, books and textiles committed to protecting the environment.

The organic corner is a part of Carrefour’s food transition strategy to promote a healthier and sustainable diet. The retailer has announced it plans to set a benchmark for organic and sustainable products.

Coop Italia announces plans to invest in customer service

Coop Italia has revealed it is investing an additional €50m, totalling €100m, in customer support measures, as the country recovers from the coronavirus pandemic. It plans to support shoppers until 30 September 2020 by providing 2,000 Coop private label, which 90% originate from Italian suppliers and producers.

Coop Italia has dedicated 70% of the investment to safety and security measures, to ensure shoppers and staff remain safe. However, the cooperative claims it plans to alter the focus towards driving consumer purchasing power.

To offer shoppers convenience it introduced pre-made baskets for €10, which include 10 products under the Coop private label. The baskets include essentials such as toilet paper, milk, and pasta.

Conad Nord Ovest’s investment plans and FY19 results

Conad Nord Ovest has announced a €4 bn turnover and said it has contracts with 1,695 local suppliers in 2019. Furthermore, it revealed it has over 600 stores operated by 366 business partners.

The group claims it will invest €350m during 2020-2022 and is allocating this towards several projects including:

  • New store openings
  • Targeted redevelopment
  • Rebranding former Auchan stores
  • Expanding its commercial offer
  • Improving its logistics network

Moreover, Conad currently operates 23 Spazio Conad stores which offers 3,000 sq. m of a new shopping experience meeting shoppers demands.
