Booths annual results for 2012/13

Date : 19 November 2013
Figures filed with Companies House for leading UK regional supermarket operator Booths, show that sales grew by 2% in the year 2012/13 to reach £279m, though like-for-like sales fell by 1%.  Pre-tax profits dipped to £3.7m from £5.9m in the previous year following the implementation of a staff bonus scheme that paid out £1.5m.

Boosted by ongoing store development

Now operating 29 stores across the north-west, Booths opened a new store at Milnthorpe, Cumbria during the year, and sales were also enhanced by a full year of trading in its MediaCity site in Salford.  During the financial year Booths revamped 14 of its existing stores, bringing additional focus to its key destination 'slow-lane' categories, and an enhanced experienced for shoppers.

Edwin Booth, executive chairman, commented:

"We are trading well and making further progress with reductions in operating costs and improved trading margins ... we remain confident that by positioning Booths as a specialist food and drink retailer there will be a loyal following for our brand in the future."

Reserve and collect launched for Christmas

Booths does not yet operate full online shopping, however it has reintroduced online ordering for Christmas ranges after a successful trial last year.  Under the title Reserve and Collect, customers can order their key festive items from the supermarket's website, supported with functionality that provides suggested menus and identifies the ingredients and quantities needed according to the size of party.
