Bestway, the UK's leading independent wholesaler, has revealed major developments to its depot operations as it seeks to adapt to the rapid growth of online ordering and delivery service across its business.
23 depots converted to 'delivery hubs'
The key change above all is the establishment of dedicated fast-pick areas and loading bays to service delivery orders in 23 of its cash & carry depots nationwide. This will give Bestway the means to handle greater volumes of customer deliveries with greater efficiency from purpose-designed facilities, rather than simply picking orders from the open shelves. Along with its remaining depots these hubs will still retain space for self-service 'shopping' enabling customers to purchase flexibly and top-up between deliveries.
Expanded 'central' capacity for chilled distribution
In the drive to build a stronger offer for convenience retailers Bestway has also extended its chilled distribution facility by half, providing space for an additional 1,500 chilled and short-life lines. This facility is now providing the ability to offer better date-life and pricing to retailers on some chilled and bakery lines by being routed centrally.
Ongoing improvements to ordering website
As the critical engine for customer ordering, Bestway is also continuing to focus development on enhancing the functionality and user experience on its transactional website. As well as seeking to integrate the ordering experience across all digital platforms (mobile, tablet and PC), to ensure consistency on each, the website has been enhanced with 65,000 new product images and improved descriptors plus more flexible and effective search capability. By using Hotjar heat-mapping analysis Bestway has been able to help suppliers understand how customers use the site and to rationalise features that get little or no use.
