Amazon: expands Fresh to Italy, to launch in Poland

Amazon has launched its Fresh grocery delivery service in Italy, initially available in Milan. The retailer also announced it is planning to launch an online store in Poland.

Amazon Fresh launches in Milan

Customers in Milan now have access to more than 10,000 products from categories including meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, pasta, organic, eggs, home care, and local artisanal products. Products are offered by Amazon Fresh as well as through a partnership with local retailer U2 Supermercato.

The service is available to Amazon Prime members and free same-day delivery is offered in two-hour timeslots from 8 am to 12 pm, for orders over €50. Members can select one-hour delivery slots for a cost of €4.99.

Amazon Fresh is initially available in Milan, with plans to rollout the service to Rome before being launched across the whole of Italy by the end of the year.

The news comes after Amazon closed its Pantry service in Jun 2020 in the Italy, Spain, and the UK to offer a clearer, simpler proposition to convert Prime members.

Launch in Poland

Amazon also announced plans to launch in Poland. Whilst the website is not yet live, selling partners can now register their interest in preparation for the launch.

Amazon has operated in Poland since 2014, with nine logistics centres across the country. However, customers have previously had to order products via the retailer’s international websites, such as Germany, raising costs.

Alex Ootes, Vice President EU Expansion at Amazon, commented: “Amazon has been supporting Polish customers and selling partners across our different European stores for many years, but the next step is to bring a full consumer retail offering to Poland and we are making those plans now.”
