Alibaba’s Southeast Asia ecommerce business, Lazada, has reshuffled its leadership.
New CEO as part of succession plan
Lazada Group appointed Pierre Poignant as its new chief executive chairman this week as part of its succession planning. Poignant will succeed Lucy Peng, one of the 18 founders of Alibaba, with immediate effect. Peng will remain as executive chairwoman.
Second CEO change in 2018
Poignant’s appointment marks Lazada’s second CEO change this year. Peng took over as the company’s CEO just night months ago after Alibaba doubled its investment to $4bn. Alibaba now owns more than 90% of Lazada.
Launched in 2012, Lazada operates in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Lazada took part in the recent Single’s Day mega sale and reported that "20 million shoppers browsed and grabbed deals on site".
