Albert Heijn and BP expanding convenience partnership in Netherlands

Albert Heijn and BP plan to expand their retail cooperation to over 100 sites across the Netherlands.

To go food available at BP

Shoppers will be able to buy Albert Heijn ‘to go’ food and drinks at select BP stores in the Netherlands. The partnership brings the expertise and experience of both retailers to provide a convenience range tailored to driver’s needs. BP’s existing shop offer will be expanded with the new range later in 2020.

The expansion follows a successful pilot phase with Albert Heijn’s to go shops at eight BP retail sites. Shoppers can choose from a range of freshly prepared food and drinks including, but not limited to, coffee, sandwiches, and fruit juices. Car care products will still be available.

Expansion to fit with wider strategy

In our supermarkets, but also on the road, for example in hospitals, at train stations, colleges and thus petrol stations.”

Our store visit

We previously visited an Albert Heijn and BP trial store in Nieuwe Hemweg. The store added a good range of fresh fruit, vegetables, juices, baked goods, and coffee. These additions help satisfy shoppers needs and drive footfall.

Food was tailored for different times of the day and competitively priced with meal deals including a coffee and croissant for €2.50. Multiple pay points were available for shoppers to get in and out quickly.

The store added collection points for orders from Bol.com. Providing convenient locations for shoppers to pick up their purchases supports the growth of Bol.com, helping Ahold Delhaize remain a market leader in ecommerce.
