Ahold Delhaize creates Peapod Digital Labs

Ahold Delhaize has created Peapod Digital Labs, as it invests in innovation in digital and e-commerce, as well as technology and experience.

Its focus will be on driving digitalisation and personalisation capabilities for Ahold Delhaize’s US banners more widely, as well as oversee Ahold Delhaize’s Peapod online service. It is hoped that the unit will be fully operational by the end of the year.

JJ Fleeman: chief-ecommerce officer and president of Peapod Digital Labs

As part of this, JJ Fleeman has been appointed as Ahold Delhaize’s chief-ecommerce officer and president of Peapod Digital Labs. Peapod’s president, Walt Lenz will report to Fleeman.

Fleeman has worked in a number of roles for the retailer, most recently as EVP of commercial services and strategy for Ahold Delhaize’s USA Retail Business Services division. Prior to this, his roles included strategy for Delhaize America and the integration of Ahold and Delhaize.

Commenting on the announcement, Kevin Holt, CEO of Ahold Delhaize USA said, ‘We are excited about this new company, which will serve as the engine that powers our U.S. e-commerce and digital strategies … The creation of Peapod Digital Labs and appointment of JJ to lead the new company and serve as chief e-commerce officer will enable us to sharpen our focus on leveraging the size and scale of the U.S. brands to provide customers with a personalized and effortless shopping experience’.

Fleeman added, ‘We have a tremendous opportunity to build upon Peapod's longstanding history of innovating to meet consumers' needs to create an unparalleled omnichannel grocery experience’.
