Aeon has confirmed the site for the first Ocado Customer Fulfilment Centre in Japan. It will serve customers in Chiba province and the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.
A first step to go live in 2023
The first Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) will be located in Honda-cho, Midori-ku, Chiba-city. The CFC can hold a large range of approximately 50,000 products. It operates 24 hours, with picking operations using robotics and AI. In a press release, the company notes that the “robots in the CFC can assemble a 50-item order within 6 minutes.”
The first CFC is expected to go live in 2023 and will be followed by further CFC capacity over the following two years. Aeon signed an agreement with Ocado in November last year to develop its online grocery business in Japan.
