Tesco strengthening its marketing team

Date : 28 February 2013

Tesco is reported to be bolstering its marketing department, looking to fill a raft of positions in preparation for its new brand campaign.

A significant investment

Marketing magazine has reported that Tesco is looking to invest in recruiting more than 40 new members to its marketing team, in both new and existing positions, within its UK and international teams. Tesco is looking to fill roles such as commercial change manager and innovation manager, both to work in its  "personalisation programme office". The report also said that the project is being led by Tesco's marketing director David Wood, as he looks to improve the coherence across Tesco.

Consistent messaging

"Brand and marketing" is the fifth element of Tesco's strategy to improve its UK business. It has already hired a new marketing agency, W & K, in the last year and it is looking to drive a more uniform approach across its various formats and channels. As part of its strategy towards developing its brand, Tesco is also expected to grow its focus on personalisation and localisation this year. The new appointments will support this push towards consistent communication, both in the UK and internationally, allowing Tesco to have a more joined up approach across its businesses.
