Ocado’s online petfood business, Fetch, has been acquired by direct-to-consumer pet supplies company Paws Holdings.

Launched in 2014

Ocado launched Fetch as a standalone online pet store in 2014 offering products for cats and dogs, (which make up 90% of its sales), as well as other animals.

Paws Holdings, which operates Pet-Supermarket.co.uk in the UK and Medicanimal.com in Europe, has acquired Fetch for an undisclosed figure.

In the medium term, orders of Fetch products will be fulfilled from Ocado’s distribution centres, before transferring to Paws’ third-party fulfilment partners.

Simplifying the proposition

Ocado also announced the sale of Fabled, a make-up store and website, to Next in a deal worth £8m in June 2019. Both Fetch and Fabled were hosted on separate websites, and with Ocado.com already offering products within the health & beauty and pet categories, these acquisitions simplify the retailer’s proposition. The acquisition also enables Ocado to invest further in its business, for example, it is building new customer fulfilment centres in Bristol, Andover, and Purfleet in order to raise capacity and welcome new customers.
