Norwegian market leader, NorgesGruppen is launching an online grocery trial this week, making it the first modern grocery retailer to offer an online grocery service in the market aside from existing pure play online grocery retailers.
5,000 customers involved
This week 5,000 MENY customers in Oslo and Akershus will be invited to trial the online service.
Commenting on the development, Manager Elaine Kjuus commented, ‘our ambition is to create the nation’s toughest online grocer. Online shopping will be an additional service, and variety and unique perishables are our greatest competitive strength'.
Until now, ecommerce development has been largely driven by pure play online grocery retailers, kolonial.no, which also sells private label products from Reitangruppen’s discount banner, REMA 1000 and more recently marked.no.
NorgesGruppen’s move differentiates it from competitors Coop Norge and Reitangruppen, providing it with a new route to market in a more convenient way for shoppers who are already receptive to online shopping thanks to existing online grocery and non-food retailers.
