Waitrose has announced that Rupert Ellwood has been promoted to be its new head of marketing.
Focus on campaigns, publications and events
Ellwood is currently head of retail operations for Waitrose stores in the Southeast, having joined the retailer in 2010 from Wineworld, where he was managing director of London wine experience destination, Vinopolis. Ellwood replaces Sarah Fuller who left the retailer a month ago to take up a new position at The Garden Centre Group. In his new role he will be responsible for ad campaigns, customer publications and events. Ellwood will report to Waitrose marketing director Rupert Thomas.
Driving marketing strategy
Commenting on the promotion Thomas said "Rupert has a proven track record, having played an important role in growing our business overseas. He brings with him a wealth of experience across a range of sectors and business areas, which will be invaluable in continuing to drive our marketing strategy."
Waitrose opens two more stores
The news comes on the day that opens two strategically significant stores in the London area. In Watford, Waitrose has opened its first little Waitrose store in a John Lewis department store - click here for our first impressions. Waitrose has also opened a supermarket in Greenwich's New Capital Quay Development. This store is expected to be Waitrose's only supermarket opening in inner London this year as retailer focuses investment instead on 10 convenience store openings and building its multichannel presence.
