Following the departure of Tony Buffin, Coles have appointed Rob Scott as its new finance director.
Internal appointment shows strong management pipeline
Rob Scott will move from his current position as Managing Director of Wesfarmers insurance, to head up the finance division at Coles. The move follows the decision of outgoing Coles Finance Director, Tony Buffin to take a senior role at the building merchants Travis Perkins in the UK. Richard Goyder, Wesfarmers Managing Director said that Mr Scott has significantly improved the performance of the Wesfarmers Insurance division, in what has been a challenging period for the insurance industry and he believes his experience will enable him to make a strong contribution to the continued performance improvement of the Coles business.
Experience will bring new life to the Coles leadership team
Scott will move to his new role in February with his experience bringing new thinking to the Coles leadership team. This is Scott's second period as a Wesfarmers employee, having first joined the company in 1993, before leaving to gain experience in investment banking and financial services with Deutsche Bank in Australia and Asia. He rejoined Wesfarmers in 2004 in a business development role and was appointed Managing Director of Wesfarmers Insurance in 2007. He is dual Olympian in the sport of rowing and was a silver medallist at the Atlanta Olympics.
'The best credentials to oversee Coles' finance, IT and property'
Coles Managing Director, Ian McLeod, commenting on the changes to the Coles leadership team saying, 'I am delighted that Rob will be joining Coles as Finance Director. Rob was selected as the leading candidate after an extensive internal and external search because he has the best credentials to oversee Coles’ finance, IT and property functions and our growing and increasingly important financial services business. Tony [Buffin] has made a strong contribution to the Coles turnaround. I wish Tony and his young family well as he enters another phase in his career.'
