Despite parent company Dansk Supermarked ending its joint venture with Sainsbury’s, Netto is looking to double its Swedish store count from 157 stores in the next ten years.
Netto: no obstacles to becoming the same size as Netto Denmark
Commenting on the development, Bent Holm, Managing Director of Netto Sweden said, ‘We have a very aggressive investment plan in Sweden, where we see great potential. Next year we will open 10 new stores and then the goal is 15 new stores per year. I see no obstacles to Netto Sweden reaching the same size as it is in Denmark … Discount is relatively new in the country, but now the Swedes are getting used to the concept’.

This year, Lidl have also made a series of advancements, including the appointment of a new CEO, the establishment of a third distribution centre and the start of a store modernisation programme.
Should Netto’s expansion plans in Sweden come to fruition, it would represent a sharp uptake in its' store openings in recent years. The Stockholm area remains a huge opportunity for the retailer, given the high concentration of people and the fact that Netto only operates two stores in the area.
