Less store openings planned than in 2015
This year, the retailer plans to launch between 150-200 new stores and is on track to realise this ambition, having launched 52 stores in the first quarter of 2016, bringing its total store count to 1,447 stores. However, its store opening ambitions for 2016 are lower than the 257 stores it opened in 2015.
By comparison, competitor BIM opened 188 stores in the first alone quarter of 2016, similar to Migros’ store opening ambitions for the entire year.
