As Nova Coop launches a new in-store service, Pam and Conad del Tirreno expand their ecommerce fulfilment solutions and the VéGé Group reports on its performance in 2017, we round news from the country.
Nova Coop adds in-store nutritional advice service
Nova Coop, which is based in the Piedmont region, has launched a free in-store nutritional advice service at three Ipercoop hypermarkets in Chieri, Collegno and Turin. Expert dieticians will help shoppers choose products and foods that respond to their hygiene and nutrition needs, while also providing expert advice on health and wellness. Coop said to support the service’s introduction it was collaborating with the University of Turin’s School of Medicine, which is providing training.
VéGé Group: sales rose 6.9% in 2017
The VéGé Group has announced its 2017 results. It said turnover rose 3.4% in like-for-like terms and by 6.9% in total terms to €6.21 bn at the end of 2017. The alliance of 29 retailers said it was its fourth straight year of growth. Growth was underpinned by store expansion, with VéGé Group operating 3,034 stores at the end of 2017, up from 2,380 at the end of 2016, and a total selling area of 1.3m sq. m. In 2017 the VéGé Group joined Grupo IFA , as part of the latter’s internationalisation programme. In 2018 the VéGé Group said it believed its membership of IFA would help it drive revenue above €6.5 bn.
Pam set to grow online presence…
At the locally operated Retail Summit, Pam’s chief executive, Gianpietro Corbari, was reported as discussing how it was generating more sales online, which was being driven by a further strengthening of partnerships with online players. Corbari said Pam would develop its ecommerce offer in the short term, in conjunction with Supermarcato24, as part of an aim to take its share of sales above 1% in 2019, from 0.6% now. He said Pam would also build on its initial collaboration with Amazon.
As part of its digitisation efforts Corbari pointed out how Pam already accepts Apple Pay and Satispay, while further options would be added in future. To support this part of its strategy the retailer has created the Pam Innovation Lab, which has created a cross-functional team to mainly focus on costumer experience, digital operations and analytics.
…While Conad del Tirreno adds Click & Collect service
Conad del Tirreno, which operates in Tuscany, Lazio, Sardinia and Liguria, has added a Click & Collect service at all its 142 stores. The cooperative said shoppers could buy from a range of between 7,000 and 15,000 SKUs, with hour long delivery options available.
