IGD Award Winner Spoon Guru appoints Andy Clarke as Chairman

Andy Clarke, the former Asda CEO, is to become non-executive Chairman of Spoon Guru, the technology start-up that won the IGD Digital Engagement Award 2017.

About Spoon Guru

Founded in 2014, Spoon Guru is a London-based technology start-up that has developed a unique search engine to cater to specific food needs. It uses the latest advances in AI and machine learning to improve the shopping experience of those with specific dietary requirements. Its advanced dietary management solution allows retailers to improve and refine their products based on individual customer profiles.

A good fit for Andy Clarke

Since leaving Asda, Andy Clarke is working on building a “portfolio career” and Spoon Guru is a great opportunity. The business is at an exciting stage of growth having rapidly grown since its launch, including partnership with Tesco.

Clarke brings over 25 years of retail experience and his sector experience includes food and grocery, fashion, and general merchandise in the UK and internationally. His role will see him focus on building relationships for Spoon Guru internationally with suppliers and retailers in the grocery business.  Clarke met Spoon Guru’s founders after discussing a mutual friend’s severe nut allergy.

Winner of the IGD Digital Engagement Award 2017

More than 600 senior executives gathered at the IGD Awards on 3rd October 2017 to raise a toast to the food and industry’s achievements over the last 12 months. Spoon Guru was selected as the winner of the IGD Digital Engagement Award as a brilliant example of how technology can be used in the food and grocery industry to solve a real problem for shoppers who have dietary requirements. It was up against Coca-Cola, Mars, and Tesco.
