Coles has launched a new range of ready meals called 'Coles Kitchen'.
Bolstering its convenience offer
The new range sees 34 new products added to the retailer's ready meal category and includes products covering Italian, Indian, Asian and Australian cuisines. They join the growing range of convenient food-to-go and food-for-later meal solutions that Coles is looking to develop across its supermarkets. A key strategy for Coles is to role out new convenient food solution categories across many of its stores, with 220 stores due to have food-to-go convenience departments by November 2020. It also recently acquired ready meal supplier Jewel Fine Foods to help strengthen its capabilities and ranges further.
Trend accerlated by COVID-19
The launch of the new range is well timed, with more Australian's looking for dine-in inspriation due to the global pandemic. A few weeks ago we saw Woolworths launch 60 new products including soups, ready meals, traybakes, slow cooked meats, one pan dishes, side dishes, stir fry kits and ready-to-cook roasts. In total, Coles has recently added over 100 products to its convenience offer, with around 50% of its range under private label brands and the other half provided by branded suppliers.
