Leading UK convenience retailer Co-op has announced it will create 5,000 new roles in a bid to provide temporary employment for workers being laid off in the hospitality industry. The move, comes as the UK hospitality sector bears a significant impact from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency as customers avoid restaurants, pubs and cafes in line with government advice.
Recruitment procedure simplified to speed take-up
Co-op is offering both full-time and temporary roles across its 2,600-strong store estate nationwide, and is fast-tracking its processes in order to enable recruits to get to work in a matter of days. The new store colleagues will be key to supporting existing store staff in replenishing shelves and maintaining availability at this time of spiking demand, as well as undertaking picking for delivery operations.
