Asda has become the first UK supermarket to roll out a one-hour click and collect service, according to reports from The Grocer.
Express Click & Collect
At the end of 2019, Asda launched trials of its Express Click & Collect service at its Killingbeck and Middleton stores. The retailer will now expand this initiative to further stores, with 25 offering the service by February. Hundreds of stores are set to launch the service by the beginning of March allowing customers to order online from the retailer’s full range and collect their purchases within an hour. Stores selected for the service rollout will be those that do not already offer click and collect services or lockers.
Asda has also launched a same-day delivery service in 284 of its stores, with customers able to order before noon for delivery after 3:30pm the same day.
The greatest currency is time
We have identified ‘The greatest currency is time’ as one of our five Global retail trends 2020, that we expect to develop and shape the global retail market this year and beyond. Shoppers believe they are more time-pressed and making shopping as simple and convenient is a priority for retailers. Therefore, we expect to see more retailers continue to meet shoppers’ expectations by getting shopping to them quickly, so customers feel they’re making the best possible use of their time.
