Digital director steps down; click and collect innovation; electric delivery vans.

Ben Stimson steps down from role

Waitrose's digital director is set to leave the business in September, as Waitrose.com parts ways with Ocado, reports The Times. Stimson was promoted to the role in 2019, prior to which he was retail director, bringing experience of operational and store management from Waitrose and John Lewis.

Introducing drive-through collections

Selected Waitrose stores are offering drive-through collections, reports The Grocer. Seventy stores are offering the service, which enables shoppers to have shopping delivered directly to their vehicle in dedicated car parking bays. This is similar to the curbside pick-up popular in North America, and well suited to shoppers who want to minimise social contact when shopping for groceries.

Plans to introduce electric delivery vans in 2021

The new electric vans are due to come in two designs: a larger model for online Waitrose food deliveries and a smaller version for John Lewis deliveries. It is estimated that 20,000 tonnes of CO2 will be saved each year as a result of the rollout.

According to the retailer, the move will be complemented by a major increase in the number of electric vehicle charging points in its shop car parks
