Amazon has launched its Fresh grocery delivery service in Spain, offering same-day delivery to Prime members.
Available in Madrid
Amazon has initially launched the service in Madrid with plans to roll it out to Barcelona in the coming months, and eventually other cities in Spain. Amazon Fresh is already available for customers in the US, Japan, the UK, Germany, India, and the most recent launches in Italy and Singapore.
Customers in Madrid now have access to more than 10,000 products from categories including meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, pasta, organic, eggs, and home care.
The service is available to Amazon Prime members and free same-day delivery is offered in two-hour timeslots for orders over €50.
Amazon already operates its Prime Now delivery service in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona. Amazon partners with Spanish retailer DIA for this service, offering customers a range of DIA products as well as its own. For its Fresh service, Amazon is operating out of warehouses where Prime Now delivery services are based. Utilising Prime Now fulfilment centres will allow Amazon to acquire and steal customers from its competitors as there will be a large waiting list for Amazon Fresh. Amazon will still offer its Prime Now service, but could use its retailer partner stores to pick and fulfil orders.
