As part of separate announcements, Auchan has said it will increase the pace of its investment in Russia, while it was aiming to launch a new private label beauty brand and, according to a report in trade publication LSA, a mobile payment app in France.
Auchan to increase investments in Russia for 2017…
Following on from its announcement in Q4 2016 that it was aiming to invest between RUB20bn and RUB30bn (US$348.7m and US$523.0m) in Russia annually in the medium term, Auchan has said that it looking to invest more than RUB20bn (US$348.7m) in 2017. The retailer said it would spend the money to open four new hypermarkets and more than 20 supermarkets.
…Launch improved MyAuchan app…
LSA has reported that Auchan is looking to launch an updated version of its MyAuchan app in May. The new app will contain a mobile payment solution, which will in turn be integrated with the retailer’s loyalty programme, digital vouchers and digital receipts. Discussing the app’s potential, Auchan Retail France’s innovation director, Philippe Courbois, was quoted as saying that it could be rolled out to all the retailer’s international markets, albeit with adaptations for local countries’ needs.
…And is aiming to launch ‘Cosmia’ beauty brand in 2017
Finally the retailer has said it is planning to launch a new beauty private label brand, Cosmia, in 2017. The range will cover more than 500 SKUs across facial and body treatments, make-up, shampoo and shower gels. Auchan said that it was aiming for Cosmia to be affordable, while at the same time providing a strong price to quality ratio by focusing on natural ingredients.
