Three developments from Auchan in Spain, Poland, and Ukraine.
Auchan Retail Spain’s franchisees enjoy strong growth
In an interview in local trade publication infoRETAIL, Auchan Retail Spain’s director of expansion, franchising and M&A, Javier Samperiz, said sales at its franchised stores rose 4.9% in 2019. He said 11 new stores had been added to its franchised estate, taking its total to 156. 74 stores were under the Mi Alcampo and Alcampo Supermercado banners and 82 under the Simply banner.
Auchan Poland tests InPost refrigerators
Auchan Poland has begun trialling InPost refrigerators, which will be in car parks at shopping centres in Piaseczno and Lomianki. A third site will be added in Warsaw, with the exact location unknown yet. The service will enable the safe storage and collection of food, beverages and frozen foods ordered through its online shopping service, Auchan Direct. Shoppers can collect their groceries from the fridges, but also have an option of home delivery.
Auchan aiming to increase share of online sales in Ukraine
Auchan is looking to increase the share of its online sales to 15% as it looks to expand its ecommerce coverage to all regions of Ukraine. The retailer will support this through the expansion of its store network, with new proximity stores to be opened in populated areas. These will enable it to add a click and collect service and expand the coverage of its ecommerce service. In January 2020, Auchan opened its first ultra-proximity collection point in Kyiv, the smallest in the network at 40 sq. m.
Auchan’s sales director, Natalia Pylypenko, said, “We set ambitious plans to eventually reach a 15% share of sales outside of our bricks-and-mortar stores. We are moving towards this goal. Today, we have achieved profitability and continue to actively expand in this direction.”
Regarding the ecommerce expansion, she continued, “We want to scale the existing digital projects and cover the entire country, so that even where we cannot open Auchan stores in the near future, people can order goods from us and get them.”
