On 13 April Grupo Éxito, the Colombian subsidiary of French retail group Casino, launched its “Compra y recoge” (buy and collect) initiative. Customers can make purchases either online or by telephone and arrange to collect their completed order in store free of charge.

How does this different to regular click and collect?

Éxito has offered click and collect for several years, but considering customer safety and recommended social distancing it has adjusted the service. This means customers do not have to have face-to-face contact with store colleagues.

Éxito has created designated delivery collection areas outside the store. Customers are not required leave their mode of transport or enter the store. Orders are brought directly to the customer and loaded into their car boot, motorcycle box or bicycle basket. For added safety, store staff wear protective clothing (face masks and gloves) and use antibacterial gels.

This simple but effective measure makes it much easier for customers to collect purchases, while maintaining social distancing guidelines. This gives them the peace of mind they have been as careful as possible to avoid contact and reduce the risk of spreading the disease.

Where is the service available?

The service is available in 366 stores across 70 cities. Except for Éxito’s Surtimayorista (cash and carry) banner, the initiative spans all banners and channels, including hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores and discounters. Customers can access the full list of participating stores on Éxito’s website, which also provides information on how to place orders.

"At Grupo Éxito we continue to work to generate new alternatives that facilitate the lives of customers and contribute to preventing the spread of COVID-19. This “Buy and Collect” system is a development of the company itself, which is already enabled in 366 warehouses in 70 cities, and allows us to quickly attend to the needs of our customers, in accordance with the time we are living in the country and the world. We are directly delivering the [shop to] each client's means of transport, in specific areas that we enable for this purpose, with all the protection and hygiene measures, thus reducing physical contact.  Carlos Mario Giraldo Moreno, President of Grupo Éxito.
