Waitrose announces new convenience director

Waitrose has announced Jackie Wharton as the new convenience director, replacing Diana Hunter.

15 years experience at Waitrose

Following the announcement of Diana Hunter leaving to take up the role of chief executive of Bargain Booze, Waitrose has today announced  Jackie Wharton as its new convenience director.  Wharton has worked at Waitrose for 15 years, most recently as director of commercial operations where she was responsible for pricing, promotions and merchandising. Waitrose currently operates 36 convenience stores, with plans to open a further 10 in London this year.

Driving convenience forward

Retail director Rob Collins commented "Jackie's wealth of experience in the retail and her success in developing our commercial operation functions makes her the perfect person to take on the exciting role of driving our convenience business forward".

300 convenience stores by 2020

With Waitrose aiming for 300 convenience stores by 2020, convenience continues to be a key strategic focus for the retailer. Focusing its expansion mainly within the M25, Waitrose has also partnered with Welcome Break and Shell to help it gain traction in what is a competitive market for new space amongst convenience operators.
