First Carrefour Organic open in Paris

Date : 22 March 2013

Carrefour has opened its first store dedicated entirely to organic products, at 29 boulevard Diderot, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

Range includes brands and own label

The 170 sq m test store stocks a specially tailored offer of more than 2,000 private label and branded organic products, in fresh produce and ambient grocery.  Open from 08:00 - 21:00, and on Sunday mornings, its aim is to cater to local customers' busy lifestyles.  Fresh produce will be sourced, as far as possible, from local areas of production.

Store has sustainable features

In line with Carrefour's commitments to sustainable development and the environment, the store features closed-door cold storage units and LED lighting.  Products are available to buy in bulk, thereby cutting down on packaging, and recyclable/reusable and paper bags will be used.

Reflects moves elsewhere

Carrefour is not the first to open such a store.  In Switzerland for example, Migros Zurich, one of the Swiss market leader's co-operatives, launched an exclusively organic supermarket in summer 2012, in partnership with German retailer Alnatura.
