Asda has launched a new food box service targeted at vulnerable and shielded customers using the StarStock online platform.

£30 food box for vulnerable shoppers

Available through foodboxes.asda.com, Asda's new 'cupboard filler' food box typically contains 31 ambient lines that have been in high demand since the outbreak of the pandemic. Priced at £30 including delivery, the box includes cereal, bread, pasta, tinned fruit and vegetables tea bags and long life milk. The mainly private label box also includes products from major brands including KitKat, PG tips and Napolina.

Powered by platform that allows pubs to trade as shops

The boxes will be delivered within two days of an order being placed and using third party provider StarStock for the website and DPD for the logistics, which avoids putting additional pressure on Asda's own grocery home delivery service. StarStock is an established technology provider that creates online trading platforms for the hospitality and leisure sectors. With impressive pace last month it launched mypubshop.com, a not-for-profit platform that allows pubs to trade as food shops selling a range of essential items and takeaway meals. It brings together pub companies including Admiral Taverns, Greene King Pub Partners an St Austell Breweries with wholesalers including Brakes and Costcutter. Surplus revenues from the initiative will be donated to the NHS.
