99p stores launching in Scotland

99p stores has announced plans to open its first store in Scotland, in Ayr Central Shopping Centre. It will be 99p Stores' 230th store.

Targeting new catchments

99p stores is already enjoying success in England and Wales, and it is now looking to establish a presence north of the border. The first Scottish store is set to open next month, with a further four stores planned in the following six months. 99p stores is planning to open a total of 30 stores in Scotland in the next three years. With its estate primarily concentrated in London and the South, the move to open in Scotland will allow 99p stores to build brand awareness and drive incremental sales.

Positioned for value-savvy shoppers

The 99p stores offer continues to resonate with shoppers and its move into fresh and frozen categories has created broader customer appeal, driving basket spend and adding differentiation. Hussein Lalani, 99p Stores managing director, said "The public has become rightly fixated and hooked on value - and we are delighted to oblige. The days of public paying three times over the odds for everyday basics like branded toothpaste, coffee and washing-up liquid are a thing of the past".
