Woolworths launches new B2B platform

Woolworths in Australia has launched a new B2B online platform called 'Woolworths at Work'.

Dedicated platform tailored to business needs

The retailer confimed that there were plans for a new B2B operation in the pipleline a few months ago and has now opened the Woolworths at Work website. The service will look to target business customers and offer them a new solution for their everyday supplies. The service currently includes a range of 10,000 products targeted at business customers, easy re-ordering shopping lists, online and on the phone support, a nationwide delivery network and multiple delivery options, including free next day delivery on orders over AU$99. It aims to provide a consolidated solution for businesses, with consistent pricing options, monthly invoicing and a buy now, pay later, 30 day credit option.

Target of AU$1bn sales by 2024

Woolworths is looking to evolve its businesses into an ecosystem that services all possible everyday needs, whilst at the same time diversifying its streams of revenue beyond its traditional channels. The new B2B service sits under the operation of the WooliesX team, who also oversee all of the retailer's ecommerce, data, media, finance and new revenue stream activity. Local reports suggest that Woolworths has been looking to develop a B2B service since 2016 and has ambitions to drive AU$1bn of additional revenue from business customers by 2024. It is currently using the platform to encourage businesses to get in touch and discuss working together. It will also be interesting to watch how Woolworths develops the foodservice side of the operation, particularly given its new acquisition of PFD Food Services last month.
