With the new wave of COVID-19 in Thailand, Central Food Retail is raising safety and hygiene standards by using UV-C disinfection robots in more stores.

How does it work?

The robots emit UV-C light to disinfect areas in 360 degrees to destroy more than 99.99% of all pathogens within seconds. In addition, the UV-C light is completely safe with no harmful side effects on the food products being sold. It was first trialled at Central Food Hall Central Chidlom. A staff member will operate the robot when the store is closed.

These UV-C robots are being deployed to 10 stores in high risk areas like Samut Sakhon, Bangkok and Nakhon Pathom:

• Tops Market Pinklao, Rama 2, Rama 3, Salaya, Samut Prakan, and Westgate

• Central Food Hall Bangna, Chidlom and Ladprao

• Tops SUPERSTORE  Mahachai

There are plans to introduce the UV-C Disinfection Robots at other Tops Market and Central Food Hall branches, as well as distribution centers of fresh food, dry food, and online fulfillment centers to ensure another level of safety from warehouse to customers.

Update on COVID-19 in Thailand

Thailand had largely controlled the virus by mid-2020, but saw a second wave of outbreak beginning in December. The current outbreak began in Samut Sakhon, a province south of Bangkok. All public and private schools are closed until the end of January. The Thai Retailers Association has announced that all shopping malls around the country should close at 21:00, an hour earlier than usual.
