Carrefour Poland is investing in its offer by using technology to explore new formats, and by introducing concepts tried and tested in other markets. In 2019, the retailer opened its first unstaffed store, Carrefour Express, and launched its first organic-only store in Poland, under the Carrefour Bio banner. We visited both stores to observe the potential added value they give the Polish market.

Take&Go is an unstaffed store concept set up as a test site for innovative retail solutions by its parent, Poznan-based technology company, Surge Cloud. Two stores were opened by the company in 2019, with plans to develop the 2.0 concept in 2020.

We spent a morning with the Woolworths Metro team in Sydney in early 2020 visiting its flagship Pitt St Metro store, plus its new and first MetroGo trial store in Strawberry Hills – at just 37 sq m, the smallest store the retailer operates.
