In its move to rapidly scale-up home delivery from its network of SPAR convenience stores, AF Blakemore has launched a dedicated ordering website (www.afbspar.co.uk) to offer shoppers an assortment of 1,100 products from a wide range of food and drink categories.

Initial 13 store coverage to be expanded to 80, delivery charged at £3

The service is already operational with an initial tranche of 13 stores, with another 67 to be added across AF Blakemore’s trading area including Wales, the East and West Midlands and London and the South East.  As yet the site, developed at speed, is not transactional with orders once submitted being paid for over the phone before dispatch from the selected local store.  With no minimum order size and aiming to deliver within a two-mile radius on the same day, general customers will be charged £3 for the service, while NHS workers and the self-isolating vulnerable qualify for free delivery.

New site will operate alongside stores using Snappy Shopper app

The Blakemore ordering website is being used in stores other than those now using the third-party Snappy Shopper platform.  Snappy Shopper is now being rolled out to 250 SPAR stores in Blakemore’s trading area including both company-owned and independently run units, and offering essentially the same range as the new website.

Matt Teague, Retail Managing Director, AF Blakemore commented:

‘In recent weeks, SPAR stores have played a key role in local communities delivering essential groceries to those most in need.  We hope that this new platform improves our home delivery service by making it easier for customers to see what products we have available without leaving their homes.  The website is really easy to use on mobile, tablet and desktop devices.  Our IT, Proposition and Marketing teams have done a fantastic job to develop this for us in such a short space of time.’
