Kroger is partnering with Inclusion Companies and Grammy-Nominated Artist Jewel to launch a new “Wellness Experience” platform.

Shining a light on mindfulness and mental health

The new platform will launch on October 10, coinciding with World Mental Health Day. To support the launch Kroger and Jewel will host a summit and conference, featuring artists, business leaders, and mental health experts for a day of inspiration, education, and entertainment. The free live-stream event will aim to shine a light on mindfulness and mental wellness and practices to combat depression and anxiety. Ongoing, Kroger plans to host monthly digital events and provide healthy-living resources through the platform.

Supporting associates and consumers

Issues such as anxiety, depression and isolation have come to the fore during the COVID-19 pandemic, with many people impacted by lockdown and stay-at-home mandates. Several retailers have taken steps to provide consumers with additional resources and support. Earlier this year, Canada’s leading retailer, Loblaw, through its Shoppers Drug Mart business, partnered with SilverCloud Health to offer a virtual stress management programme.

Kroger Health

Through its Kroger Health subsidiary, the retailer has launched several wellness-focused programmes during the pandemic. These include a comprehensive flu-shot programme, including touchless in-store appointments and drive-thru vaccinations. In May it launched a free tele-nutrition service to offer consumers personalised support and plans for individuals and families. This offers support for those cooking for the first time, experiencing tighter budgets or navigating reduced access to fresh foods. It has also recently expanded its COVID-19 testing programme to more than 220 clinic locations. Health and wellness is an important strategic pillar within the business, and one which is set to gain in prominence due to the pandemic. Expect to see additional initiatives in this space and a stronger focus on blurring food and pharmacy in-store.
