In August 2011, IGD was invited to see the Delhaize City format in action. We visited a store located in the heart of Brussels with a number of categories aimed at attracting urban consumers, including an impressive food-to-go offer.
We recently visited Albert Heijn in Brasschaat, Ahold’s first store to open in Belgium, to examine how it compares to local competitors and what features have been adapted to fit the market.
On 14th August 2011, IGD visited Red Market, Delahize’s low cost supermarket format, in Opwijk. We saw how this unique concept differentiates itself from the competition by rethinking the traditional supermarket layout and embracing technology.
On 4 August 2011, IGD visited four Co-operative Food convenience stores in London - The Strand, Berwick Street, Store Street and Earls Court. Key features of the stores included effective targeting of a range of convenience shopper missions, an enhanced focus on fresh, clear communication of ethical credentials and the benefits of membership, and prominent use of promotions.
Ocado has opened its 'shop window' at the One New Change shopping centre in the City of London as a trial. This innovative launch sees the online-only retailer displaying images of some of its most popular products for customers to order direct from their smartphones as they pass by the storefront.
M&S Ecclesall Road in Sheffield is the retailer’s most sustainable store to date, encapsulating the retailer’s latest thinking in ecostore development.
Caprabo’s flagship store in Barcelona is located in the L’Illa Diagonal shopping centre. IGD visited this store in May 2011.
