Walgreens Boots Alliance has partnered with PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk (MAP), a leading lifestyle retailer in the market, in its latest push of interrnational expansion.
Both companies contribute competitive advantages to the partnership
Stores are due to open in the second half of 2020. The partners have not revealed the scale of their long-term ambition in the market.
V.P. Sharma, Group CEO of MAP commented “We will be tapping synergies from the MAP Group including collaboration with MAP Club as well as our chain of department and specialty stores to gain access to the best locations for Boots in Indonesia”.
Meanwhile Jacobo Caller, Senior VP and MD of International Retail, Walgreens Boots Alliance highlighted Boots’ differentiated retail pharmacy shopping experience as likely to appeal to Indonesian consumers.
Asian ambitions for Walgreens Boots Alliance

Boots has a strong retail network in Thailand, where it operates c.285 stores, first establishing itself in the market in 1997.
More recently, the company has partnered with Shinsegae-owned Emart in South Korea, now operating a small network of Boots sites.
In China, WBA acquired a 40% stake in a leading national pharmacy operator Sinopharm Holding Guoda Drugstores Co. WBA states it believes there is great potential to work together with GuoDa to play a transforming role in the evolving Chinese retail pharmacy market.
