Pam has introduced a new format store in Padua, called PamCity. Meanwhile, DESPAR revealed an increased turnover in 2019. Separately, SPAR Italy has applied a digital solution to help increase efficiency across the northeast of Italy. Finally, Carrefour has acquired 28 stores from Conad.
Conad sells 28 Auchan stores to Carrefour Italia
Carrefour Italia has purchased 28 Auchan stores in northern Italy from Conad. Conad has faced difficulties in the northern territory, which led to it selling 28 recently purchased Auchan stores. Conad is also restructuring to create Conad Centro Sud, as a result of the merger of PAC 2000A and Conad Sicilia.
The transition of stores will be finalised at the start of 2020. Carrefour Italia revealed the purchase allows it to build a stronger presence in northern Italy. The group claims the acquisition of the stores, aligns with its 2019-2022 transformation plan. The retailer also signed a franchise deal with Apulia Distribuzione and Etruria Retail to continue its expansion.
Pam introduces new format in Padua
A new format by Pam has opened, which features Pam’s new generation of urban proximity store layout. The store will be open Monday to Saturday 08.00 to 21.00 and Sunday 09.00 to 21.00. PamCity features new services such as; contactless payments, home delivery and cash deposits and withdrawals with ViaCash.
A large focus will be dedicated to food-to-go and food-for-now products. PamCity offers competitive prices and supports the local economy by stocking products from small and medium sized Italian businesses.
The retailer’s private label Pam Panorama holds a strong presence across both food and non-food categories. Bio Pam Panorama, the retailer’s organic range, and Semplici and Buoni, its special dietary requirement ranges, are also available.
DESPAR’s positive 2019 results
DESPAR announced its 2019 results and revealed its aim for 2020. The retailer revealed an increase in turnover of 15%. DESPAR plans to invest €6.5m to continue its expansion in 2020.
SPAR Italy improves its operational functions
SPAR Italy has introduced Aspiag Service’s retail management solution, which has improved accuracy and efficiency in operational functions on the shop floor. The app is being used across 560 DESPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR stores. The solution allows employees to order and manage stock returns and have statistics for products in-store.
The app has allowed clear and direct communication between the store and head office. Meanwhile, the app has helped towards implementing a sustainable work environment by; reducing waste due to better stock management and producing 20% less paper lists.
Gruppo Selex invests €330m to expand and remodel
Gruppo Selex expects to finish 2019 with a turnover of €11.1 bn. It is planning to invest €330m to open 67 new stores and renovate 81 existing ones. Selex’s target in 2020 is to increase turnover to €11.6 bn, a rise of 4%, while it will also focus on digital advancement.
